Early Childhood

Early Childhood Pedagogy at Westfield Park Primary School

As part of our commitment to building brighter futures together, at Westfield Park Primary School, building strong relationships is a priority. We understand that positive relationships between educators, students and families are crucial in ensuring the success and wellbeing of every child.

Our Early Childhood Program is based on the belief that children learn best through purposeful play supported by explicit teaching. Students are engaged in authentic and meaningful learning experiences through planned, proactive and intentional play-based learning combined with explicit and direct instruction. We value culture, family and relationships within and beyond our community as significant influences on a child’s learning and development.

Developing a strong foundation for learning in the early years is vital to our students’ growth and future success. Developmentally appropriate practices, aligned with our whole-school approaches, allow our educators to nurture each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development while maintaining high expectations for all learners. Our high-quality teaching and learning programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Standards (NQS) and the Western Australian Curriculum, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.
